Our Reviews
San Antonio Plastic Surgeon: Dr. Michael Baumholtz
At Baumholtz Plastic Surgery near San Antonio, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Michael Baumholtz (Dr. B), uses his extensive experience, artistic vision and surgical skills to help men and women attain the facial features and body characteristics they desire.
Facial-enhancement Procedures Plastic Surgeons Perform Near San Antonio
A Blepharoplasty (aka Eyelid Surgery)
Dr. B helps men and women appear younger, and look more refreshed by rejuvenating their eyelids. During a combination blepharoplasty procedure near San Antonio, Dr. Baumholtz addresses sagging lower eyelids and drooping upper eyelids. In addition, Dr. B uses eyelid surgery to correct eye bags or hollowing under the eyes.
A droopy upper eyelid can negatively affect peripheral vision; therefore, under certain circumstances, health insurance does cover an upper blepharoplasty.
A Facelift (aka Rhytidectomy)
As a highly experienced plastic surgeon near San Antonio, Dr. Baumholtz performs facelift procedures to help men and women regain the youthful facial characteristics that tend to diminish with age.
The main structural protein that keeps the skin flexible and firm is collagen. Once an individual reaches the age of 20, the body begins decreasing its production of collagen by 1% every year. This decrease in collagen production causes the skin to lose its elasticity. The skin also begins to thin. These skin characteristics cause sagging, which results in the development of lines and wrinkles. Furthermore, the muscles and fat in the face begin to fall, resulting in the development of hollow areas.
To increase the volume in a patient’s face, Dr. Baumholtz can harvest fat from another location on the body (e.g., lower abdomen, hips). Once Dr. B purifies the fat, he can transfer it into the deep furrows and the empty-looking areas of the patient’s face.
Choosing a plastic surgeon with a great deal of experience performing facelift procedures and transferring autologous fat is vital. Following a facelift, the patient must still be recognizable, he or she should just look healthier, refreshed and more youthful.
A Rhinoplasty (aka Nose Surgery, Nose-reshaping Surgery) and a Septoplasty
Dr. Michael Baumholtz performs nose-reshaping surgery to address nose characteristics that the patient finds unpleasant. Additionally, during the same surgical session, he can perform a septoplasty to straighten a deviated septum.
If an individual is experiencing breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum, the health insurance company may cover the septoplasty procedure.
During rhinoplasty procedures, Dr. B addresses:
- Large or uneven nostrils.
- Bumps or humps on the bridge of the nose.
- A nose that does not harmonize with the other facial features (e.g., too large or too small).
- A hooked, bulbous or drooping nasal tip.
- A nose that appears too narrow or too wide.
- Any other cosmetic issue that negatively affects the balance and symmetry of the nose.
- A deviated septum – with an add-on procedure that is referred to as a septoplasty.
Female Breast Enhancement Procedures
A Breast Augmentation (aka Breast Implant Surgery, an Augmentation Mammoplasty)
A woman who would like to increase the size of her breasts may want to meet with a plastic surgeon to learn more about breast implant surgery. While performing an augmentation mammoplasty, Dr. Baumholtz provides women with the beautifully shaped, larger breasts they desire.
Dr. B also uses breast implants to address defects and deformities, as well as to reconstruct a woman’s breast following a mastectomy or an elective risk-reduction surgery.
During a breast augmentation, Dr. Baumholtz can:
- Increase the volume in the upper pole of elongated breasts.
- Improve breasts that have lost volume due to excessive weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Address asymmetrical breasts that are of different sizes.
- Add volume and improve the shape of small breasts.
- Improve the body proportions of the patient by properly sizing her breasts so that they match her specific shape and stature.
Women who have elongated breasts may also be good candidates for a combination procedure that includes breast implant surgery, a breast lift and nipple-areolar complex reduction.
A Mastopexy (aka Breast Lift)
Gravity causes the breasts to fall and, as the skin stretches, they become elongated. Breastfeeding also affects the breasts, usually causing them to appear deflated. A woman who has breasts that are pendulous or deflated may be a good candidate for a San Antonio breast lift.
While he performs a breast lift, Dr. Baumholtz moves the patient’s breast mounds to a place that is higher on her chest. He carefully moves her nipple-areolar complexes to the newly created breast mounds, reattaching them at a natural-looking position on her breasts.
During a breast lift, Dr. Baumholtz can decrease the size of overly large nipple-areolar complexes before he moves them to the new breast mounds.
Women who are considering a breast lift should make an appointment with an experienced plastic surgeon to learn more about their breast-enhancement options.
If a woman has pendulous and deflated-looking breasts, she may want to consider having a combination of breast enhancement procedures. Dr. B can address pendulous breasts that look deflated and have large complexes with a combination mastopexy, breast augmentation and nipple-areolar complex reduction.
A Reduction Mammoplasty (aka Breast Reduction Procedure)
Excessively large breasts can make what should be an easy task, such as moving clothes from the washer to the dryer, strenuous. In addition, due to the continuous movement of their breasts, many of these women avoid participating in activities that they may otherwise enjoy (e.g., bowling, rock climbing, horseback riding). Furthermore, overly large breasts can cause physical symptoms, including headaches, neck pain, difficulty breathing while lying down, back pain and rashes may develop underneath the breasts.
Other issues that large-breasted women experience include problems finding tops that fit properly, looking heavier than they truly are, and having breasts that look disproportionate with the rest of their body.
During a breast reduction, Dr. Michael Baumholtz decreases the size of the patient’s breasts by removing excess tissue, he moves the breast mounds to a higher position on the patient’s chest. After he moves the breast mounds, Dr. B sculpts the breast tissue and removes excess skin to create the patient natural-looking, beautifully shaped breasts. Additionally, Dr. Baumholtz can reduce the size of the nipple-areolar complexes before he moves them to the patient’s newly created breast mounds.
Body-enhancing Plastic Surgery Procedures Available Near San Antonio
Liposuction
The liposuction procedure is not a feasible option for weight loss; however, it is a great tool for body contouring. After a liposuction procedure, patients enjoy a sleeker, smoother profile.
Liposuction is beneficial for men and women whose body mass index (BMI) is within the range recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Individuals who do not know their BMI can click here to use the CDC’s complimentary BMI calculator.
Liposuction is especially useful in the areas of the body that tend to hold on to fat despite the steps an individual takes to eat a healthy diet and exercise.
Areas Dr. Baumholtz contours with liposuction include the:
- Abdomen.
- Thighs.
- Hips.
- Waist. (i.e., love handles).
- Sides (i.e., flanks).
- Back.
- Neck.
- Arms.
- Breasts – male and female.
Dr. Michael Baumholtz can also use liposuction in other areas of the body that a patient finds to be problematic.
A Tummy Tuck (aka Abdominoplasty)
Dr. Baumholtz performs abdominoplasty procedures for men and women who would like a firmer, flatter abdominal area. While performing a tummy tuck, Dr. B uses liposuction to address small pockets of excess fat. He also removes stretched, sagging abdominal skin and, if necessary, repairs separated abdominal muscles (i.e., diastasis recti).
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
The Brazilian butt lift offers the patient two benefits, a larger, beautifully contoured derrière and less fat in the area that the plastic surgeon uses for harvesting.
A BBL is a procedure that involves using the patient’s own purified fat to increase the size of his or her buttocks.
Locations on the body that are good for fat harvesting include the:
- Thighs.
- Back.
- Waist.
- Abdominal area.
Using liposuction, the plastic surgeon carefully removes excess fat, contouring the area during removal. After purifying the fat, the Dr. Baumholtz strategically injects the strongest fat cells into the patient’s buttocks.
Once the fat cells create themselves a blood supply and fuse with surrounding tissues, they remain in the buttocks permanently. Furthermore, the harvesting areas do not replace the fat cells that the plastic surgeon removes.
Body Contouring Near San Antonio Following Weight Loss
As people work towards improving their overall health and attaining the slimmer body they desire, the popularity of weight loss via bariatric surgery continues to grow.
After reaching their weight-loss goal, most people are left with small pockets of fat in some of the most resistant parts of the body (e.g., hips, waist). An experienced plastic surgeon uses liposuction to remove these fat pockets and contour the patient’s body.
A Body Lift
Losing a significant amount of weight can drastically improve an individual’s health and reduce his or her risk of developing heart disease and diabetes, as well other diseases that are linked to obesity. However, after losing the weight, patients usually have a substantial amount of excess skin. This sagging skin can negatively affect the individual’s ability to exercise and frequently makes finding properly fitting clothes difficult. Furthermore, due to the continuous contact, lack of airflow and friction between these skin folds, foul odors and skin infections are a common problem.
Losing a significant amount of weight is commendable; however, this excess skin can taint such a remarkable accomplishment. Today, plastic surgeons solve this problem by removing lax skin during a body lift. After a plastic surgeon performs a body lift, men and women who have lost a substantial amount of weight can truly enjoy their weight-loss accomplishment.
Many weight-loss patients also ask the plastic surgeon to contour their body. The plastic surgeon uses liposuction to sculpt the patient’s body during the same surgical session.
A Medial Thigh Lift
During a medial thigh lift, plastic surgeons reshape the patient’s thighs by removing the excess fat tissue and skin along his or her inner thighs. Following a medial thigh lift, the patient’s skin is smoother and his or her inner thighs are nicely contoured.
An Arm Reduction (aka Arm Lift, Brachioplasty)
A plastic surgeon uses an arm lift to address the excess fat and flabby skin underneath the upper arm.
During an arm reduction procedure, a plastic surgeon reduces localized fat pockets before tightening the underlying tissues and smoothing the skin over the newly contoured upper arm.
The Mommy Makeover
Once a mother delivers her baby, they create a bond that is like no other. Although motherhood is an amazing experience, the toll it takes on the body is not. The changes that occur to a mother’s body during pregnancy, while she gives birth and then as she breastfeeds, are substantial. In order to address a variety of concerns that mothers have once they have completed their families, plastic surgeons offer a combination procedure that they refer to as the mommy makeover.
As a plastic surgeon, Dr. B customizes each mommy makeover to meet the needs of a specific patient. However, mothers usually want to address issues related to their abdominal area and breasts.
Common mommy makeover procedures include:
- A breast augmentation.
- A breast lift.
- A breast reduction.
- An abdominoplasty.
- Liposuction.
- Body contouring.
- A body lift.
Although women having mommy makeovers frequently choose the surgeries listed above, an experienced plastic surgeon can include additional procedures that are not listed here (e.g., a medial thigh lift, arm reduction). At Baumholtz Plastic Surgery, near San Antonio, Dr. B creates each of his mommy makeover patients a personalized procedure plan.
Since being a mother is not a prerequisite, any woman can be eligible for a mommy makeover
Gynecomastia Surgery and the Male Breast Reduction
When a male develops enlarged breasts, determining the reason for this enlargement is important. He may have a condition that is causing a hormonal imbalance, or he may be taking a medication that causes abnormal breast growth in males. After determining the reason for the breast enlargement and addressing the issue (e.g., discontinuing the medication causing the breast growth), he should consider contacting an experienced plastic surgeon.
Plastic surgeons, including Dr. Michael Baumholtz, help men with enlarged breasts by performing gynecomastia surgery. During a gynecomastia procedure, the plastic surgeon uses liposuction, as well as direct excision, to remove the excess fat in the breast. If a patient has excess fat, tissue and lax skin, Dr. B performs a male breast reduction, which is a more extensive procedure.
Spa Treatments
Injectables
At Baumholtz Plastic Surgery, patients have access to a variety of nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatments that are designed to reduce the signs of aging, as well as to address functional issues. Injectables like dermal fillers and botulinum toxin (Botox) are two of the most popular nonsurgical, minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers add volume to areas that appear hollow. Plastic surgeons can use dermal fillers to increase volume in areas all over the body (e.g., face, hands, lips).
For facial rejuvenation purposes, patients frequently ask Dr. Baumholtz to address lost volume in the temples, as well as in the area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. In addition, a plastic surgeon uses dermal fillers to address the vertical lines that develop around the lips (i.e., smoker’s lines) and a down-turned mouth (i.e., consistent frown).
The majority of the dermal fillers that Dr. B uses at Baumholtz Plastic Surgery, near San Antonio, consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is naturally found in the body. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that a patient will experience an allergic reaction to these dermal fillers. Furthermore, if the patient is unhappy with his or her dermal filler results, Dr. B can quickly and easily dissolve fillers that consist of HA.
Botulinum Toxin
Properly placed Botox injections stop the repetitive muscle movements that cause the development of certain lines and wrinkles (e.g., the vertical lines between the eyebrows [11’s]).
An experienced plastic surgeon also uses this neurotoxin to address excessive sweating in the hands and armpits, as well as recurrent headaches due to bruxism.
Kybella
A plastic surgeon uses Kybella injections to melt away fat in smaller areas of the body. For example, Dr. B injects Kybella into the fat deposits that develop around the knee, beneath the chin and within the anterior armpit, which is the fat located between the armpit and bathing suit or bra strap.
Cellulite Reduction via QWO (i.e., collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes)
Collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes (aka QWO) is the very first, and currently the only, FDA-approved, injectable for the treatment of cellulite. Since approximately 9 out of 10 women develop cellulite in their buttocks and on the back of their thighs at some point in their lifetime, Dr. Baumholtz is pleased to offer the revolutionary cellulite-reduction injection, QWO. Women in the San Antonio area who are bothered by the cellulite dimples in their buttocks and thighs may want to consider QWO injections.

Microneedling via Dermaplaning and Skin Pen
While microneedling rejuvenates an individual’s skin, it also improves his or her overall skin tone.
During a microneedling treatment, the plastic surgeon uses extremely tiny needles (i.e., microneedles) to puncture the skin. This creates a controlled injury that triggers the body’s natural healing response.
Typically, once these punctures heal, patients notice a decrease in the visibility of their wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, scars and variances in skin color. To attain optimal results, patients need to have a series of microneedling treatments.
Plastic surgeons frequently use microneedling to improve facial characteristics. However, this treatment is also beneficial for other parts of the body.
Chemical Peels
The SkinMedica® Rejuvenation Peel
The SkinMedica® Rejuvenation Peel is a heavy chemical peel. Patients experience the most notable peeling on days 3, 4 and 5.
Some patients have a second round of peeling.
The Vi Peel
The Vi Peel is a medium depth peel that provides patients with dramatic results. This treatment is ideal for those who would like to improve their skin’s texture and tone, address hyperpigmentation issues, including melasma, and eliminate unsightly age spots. In addition, the Vi Peel helps soften facial lines and wrinkles.
The Vi peel is virtually pain free, and patients experience very little downtime after their treatment.
